In the hospitality business, you just got to put on a smile, even if you don't feel it. In conclusion, look, we all understand during these Covid times, there is a staff shortage, unhappy people under duress. Then you're not complying with the law, I say. I also tell her it is NOT a handicap room. However, I do inform her of my unhappiness with the room. I forgot to ask but it should be given automatic. Doesn't ask how our stay was, doesn't give me my receipt. When checking out, I get the same clerk who checked us in and she is the same indifferent person. So I'm not going to write a novel here because I have pictures which tell a good story. Upon entering it was obvious that this room hasn't been cleaned recently. I will be specifically writing about Room # 113. Was given a regular room which I corrected. When making reservations, I requested a handicap room. We dealt with 3 different clerks and each one was a sour puss. From the apathetic front desk clerk when checking in to the state of the room given, it was all so unacceptable. We stayed 3 nights at the end of September. All I can say now is that we will never stay here again. Front desk staff were friendly, place was well kept, looked new actually. We stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and it was lovely. Disappointing because our usual choice of hotels is usually Quality Inns. Thumbs up to staff and pricing, thumbs down to the room conditions. I also left my charger there, didnt realize till hrs later, went back and they found it. The lobby was beautiful but they need to move up to the rooms and really upgrade. Balcony doors either didnt work or bad draft or dirty. Lamps, bed frames, outside door all falling apart (peeling paint/veneer) the AC/Heater wall unit face falling off. Room 3 ok cleanliness but serious maintenance in this room. Room 2 ok with cleanliness, could do better on tub floor. The lamps were garbage, the toilet paper roll holder fell off, ceiling in bathroom paint totally peeling. Room 1 needed better cleaning (cobwebs, dirty floors). The price was right but the rooms need some serious updating and maintenance. We were in for 1 night stay for a wake/funeral. It’s reasonable someone isn’t there around the clock, just felt bad that all that water was going to waste.… Called the front desk and they offered to move us, we were checking out so we were fine, and shared that the maintenance team wouldn’t be in for a few hours. Seemed like a valve may have failed allowing the water to continue running. Fast forward to the morning, after a shower the hot water faucet in the tub would not shut off. Same “dirty” water situation for the faucet but, again, after a few seconds all was well the sink was slow to drain but did. When I turned the faucets back off the water drip seemed better but not completely gone. After a few seconds things seemed normal. It seemed like maybe the tub just had not been used in a while and there was some build up. I ran both the hot and cold water and some funk came out but then the water ran clean. There was a drip when we walked in and some detritus in the tub itself. The one big issue with the room was the tub. The door to the bathroom was worn and needed a little extra effort to shut. The AC was set to 70, bedding was clean and the room was clean overall. Check-in was simple and we easily made out way to the room. Things like wall patches that have not been repainted and some general dingy-ness. There were some basic maintenance needs that were noticeable but did not detract from our stay. Troy is closed enough to the city to justify the drive for the cost savings and the Quality Inn presented a fair price. We are visiting Detroit and did not want to pay downtown prices. This hotel is a little dated but overall met our needs.
